Civilized LandscapeJi Zhou

In Ji’s current series Civilized Landscape, he explores illusory landscapes created by mankind: using maps and books, he sculpts mountains and skyscrapers in carefully placed installations before photograping the compositions. Through this illustration of the world, Ji Zhou probes the use of human culture to understand and build the world that surrounds us.

It’s International Dark Sky Week 2015!

The Grand Canyon Parashant National Monument in Arizona, jointly managed by the BLM’s National Conservation Lands and National Park Service, is a vast remote landscape where the only nighttime light comes from the stars. The International Dark Sky Association (IDA) recognized the unspoiled quality of its pristine and breathtaking night skies with an official IDA designation as “Parashant International Night Sky Province,” joining an elite group of other international Night Sky Places around the globe.

Enjoy the starry skies over the Grand Canyon Parashant along with other BLM lands that, while not official IDA sites, offer stunning views of the Milky Way. #SeeBLM #findyourpark

This picture is full proof that Louis Wain was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Psychiatrists looked through many of his art works and found a dramatic difference between his earlier work and his later work under Schizophrenia. Psychiatrists aren’t exactly sure on why he changed to different techniques. The eyes he painted within cats were bigger with dialated pupils and often times in bright colors. In this painting, he chose to surround the eyes with bright purple flower petals which automatically catch your eye. Louis did semi use his old technique of darker colors for shadows, but in this specific painting the colors were brighter which added to the fur layering. This painting almost becomes abstract, because the use of bright vivid colors and turning flower/leaves into cat body parts.
